P1-P2 Proposed changes
#36721 from Jon Dounchis · No action required · Minutes (2024-11 Fastrack)
Thank you for your letter. Carbon-carbon and carbon-ceramic brakes are being phased out as of 2026 due to costs. We are
advised by those involved in the carbon-carbon brake industry that such material is becoming increasingly difficult to source in
the sizes required for P1 cars. The carbon material currently utilized in P1 applications features friction qualities not all that
dissimilar to the best steel and metallic-ceramic pad combinations; the primary performance benefits are derived from the
decrease in unsprung mass. To date, no empirical data has been presented which would indicate that traditional brake
materials are insufficient in this application.
