Gap is the driver's best lap in a session against the fastest lap in their class in that same session (zero is fastest in class), shown as time lost and as a share of the lap, so conditions cancel out and tracks can be compared. Typical is the median session.

Change Novice Permit Requirements to Races
#38775 from Andrew Jenkins · Not recommended · Minutes (2026-01 Fastrack)
Hi Andrew, Thank you for your thoughts on weekends vs. races when it comes to fulfilling Novice Permit requirements.
We do think that weekends are the appropriate measurement. First, because we believe the cycle of a racing event and all
sessions are what is important to the learning process, and a full set of sessions gives time to be properly evaluated. Second,
there are some regional event weekends with one race, some with two, and we’ve seen up to four races per class run within a
single event sanction which could further create confusion and odd opportunities.
In addition, we are taking a broader look at SCCA licensing, and we will consider allowing a driver on a Novice Permit running
multiple classes run in one weekend to count as multiple events, the way it’s currently allowed for Full Competition License
renewal. (Appendix C: 2.2.B)

2025+ National Racing Proposal
#36352 from Andrew Jenkins · No action required · Minutes (2024-11 Fastrack)
Thank you for your letter Andrew. The Regional path has been utilized by very few of our Runoffs competitors. Before the
Majors program was introduced there was not a path to Runoffs through Regionals, only Nationals. The CRB believes that
there should be a bright-line between the Majors/National and Regional Programs. The 2+2 path will be retained.
WRL/Champ Car License Experience for Regional Events
#26536 from Andrew Jenkins · Not recommended · Minutes (2019-07 Fastrack)
Thank you for your letter. Neither WRL or Champ Car has a process for licensure or issues
licenses to their participants so accepting participation/experience from those organizations
would fall outside the scope of what Appendix C 2.8.B is intended for. The purpose of
this section allows for a driver to show his/her competition license from another accepted
organization to a registrar in lieu of an SCCA license. There would be nothing for a driver
to show for WRL or Champ Car experience beyond results. Furthermore, these
organizations do not require a medical or approval by a physician certifying they are fit to
race. The licenses listed in App C 2.8.B require a physician's review, in line with the

SCCA physical form. Including WRL or Champ Car in this list would be outside of the
current driver eligibility guidelines which requires a medical examination form signed by a
physician. WRL and Champ Car experience may certainly be considered if drivers are
requesting a SCCA competition license waiver through the Divisional Licensing
Administrator.
